Naama Peleg is a Tel Aviv-based visual artist working primarily in oil painting and works on paper. Her practice is rooted in the dialogue between intuition and intention — between what the body knows and what the mind discovers through the act of painting.
She holds an MFA from HaMidrasha Faculty of the Arts (2022) and a BFA from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and institutions across Israel, exploring themes of identity, memory, and the subconscious.
When not painting, Naama can be found in her studio surrounded by half-finished canvases, sketchbooks, and the quiet hum of creative possibility.
My creative process begins with the slow layering of thin, almost transparent coats of monochromatic oil paint on canvas, and lines that follow the energetic movement of the moment, or with soft, silvery pastel drawings. I rarely approach a painting with a predetermined plan; the images arise from somewhere deep in the body.
I create my own methods of listening, observing, or letting go — ways that help me reach a state of openness, where the images gradually reveal themselves and shape the work. Through painting, I explore questions of identity, of relationships between two and between a person and themselves; of spiritual physicality, and of the dialogue between the personal and collective subconscious.
My inspiration comes from art history, dreams, literature, popular culture, and everyday encounters. I often reflect on automatism versus choice, on the eternal recurrence present in both creation and life, and on the ongoing cycles of destruction and renewal.
